Working after you receive your pension

Learn more about continuing, or returning to work, after taking your benefits and how it could affect you.

The impact of working while receiving your pension

Being a pensioner member of the Scheme means you are already receiving your benefits from the Uniper Group of the ESPS. However, you may still be able to keep working or return to work, while in receipt of these benefits.

Keep in mind, that as a pensioner of this Scheme, you are no longer classed as an active member. This means you may not be entitled to some death benefits or ill-health benefits, even if you are still working or return to work.

If you are looking for more information on late retirement - taking your benefits after reaching your normal pension age (NPA) - please go to the taking your benefits page instead.

You may be able to start receiving your pension benefits and continue in employment with Uniper - this is called flexible retirement. This needs to be in agreement with the Company.

Please speak to the Company's HR team for more information.

You should speak to the Company's HR team if you are thinking about returning to work for Uniper while receiving your benefits.

In most cases, as long as you started taking your benefits after the Normal Minimum Pension Age (NMPA), there will be no restrictions on you going to work for any employer, or becoming self-employed in the future.

Restrictions may apply if you retired before NMPA.

The NMPA is set by the government and is currently age 55, rising to age 57 from 2028.

Restrictions may also apply if you retired as a Protected Person. Please see below for more information.

If you are a Protected Person, i.e. you were a member of the Scheme on 31 March 1990 and remained a member since that date, then you may have started taking your benefits before your normal pension age and as early as age 50.

In this case there may be further restrictions about returning to work, or continuing to work, for Uniper, or any other employer, while taking your pension.

It is important to speak to your current, or prospective employer in the first instance for more information.

Please also refer to your Member Guide for more information about Protected Persons.

Working while taking your pension may have an impact on the amount of income tax you pay.

Visit the government website for more details.

If you have any questions about working while receiving your benefits from the Uniper Group of the ESPS, please speak to your current or prospective employer in the first instance. Alternatively, you can raise a query with Uniper's HR team.
